CASE STUDY

NAMIRA is a DJ with a distinctive cultural approach. Born and raised in LA in a Korean family and later moving to Dubai, her multicultural background shaped a global and unique vision towards music. This collision of cultures became the heart of the project, guiding the visual identity towards a blend of influences. We created a series of graphics inspired by Studio Ghibli’s illustration style and anime aesthetics, merging elements of Korea’s traditional heritage with the vibrancy of nightlife. Namira herself is imagined as a modern reinterpretation of the Gisaeng—a woman in ancient Korea trained in the arts and seen as a cultural figure. We also combined objects from both Korean tradition and nightlife culture in unexpected, fresh ways. The logo carries subtle nods to Asian aesthetics as well. We developed a custom typeface and icon that feature contrasting thick and thin strokes, reminiscent of soft-tipped bamboo brushes traditionally used with ink. These tools, often depicted near ponds or rivers in Korean landscape art, helped tie together the organic and the contemporary in Namira’s brand.
